Extarordinary Story-Telling

'Live From Lincoln Center' , on PBS is broadcasting a superior Holiday Program entitled ' Red Hot Holiday Stomp ' hosted by Glen Close. Wynton Marsalis and his Jazz Ensemble treat us to their take on some traditional holiday music, teaming up with great guest performers.
Most amazing is a special collaboration of the ensemble with a Poetry performance written by Maya Angelou and accompanied by a fabulous Tap Dancer in relating the story of Black America from Africa to the present through the evolution of its stirring artistic heritage. The dancer succeded in telling me how he and his forbears got through their day, week , year and life with a passionate and dazzling vocabulary of footwork.
Marsalis doesn't skimp on rich and rewarding solo performances from his band members either. They really are talking to us if we give them the time and attention. It is a great conversation.

So when is the Church going to reclaim the legacy of sponsorship of this kind of excellence in the telling of its story ? Fr. Andrew Greeley is adamant that this is the only way to attract back the full participation of an enthusiatic membership. Overwhelming Beauty is the only effective response to the ugliness in the world. It is the Living Water from the well of hope that will slake all thirst.
