VATICAN CITY -- Public and private sectors must work together to ensure all people, especially the poor, have access to clean, potable water, Pope Benedict XVI said in a message to an international exposition dedicated to water and sustainable development.

Water is "a universal and unalienable right" for all people, and its use must take into account the "growing and perennial needs of people who live in poverty," he said.

Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, the late archbishop of Chicago, was right. The best way to pursue the narrow path and uphold the length, breadth, height and depth of God's love is through a consistent ethic of life, which does not pick and choose between issues but faithfully adheres to all the issues, and says no to every form of violence -- war, racism, sexism, poverty, starvation, the death penalty, abortion, nuclear weapons, global warming and every injustice. Such an ethic renounces every type of killing. And in doing so, it promotes life everywhere and welcomes God's reign of nonviolence in our midst.

When in 2006, at the symposium of the American Academy of Religion, Andrew Greeley discussing the growth of the Church in Africa and other developing countries made a remark that, they will always “Take ideas from us”, I found his remark offensive. His statement assumed that that the African church lacks its own original ideas and can only succeed in its mission if it relies on the West for ideas.

About one year ago Fr. Andrew Greeley published an article questioning why we don't hold war crimes trials in the USA. I would like to apply the rationale that the Surveillance Policy supporters used to justify their activities. " If you haven't done anything wrong , what do you have to worry about ? " . Greeley posts another criticism of Phony Patriotism on his site. The Statue of Liberty was highlighted with great enthusiasm but with no mention of the great sonnet she holds on a tablet rejecting ' Storied Pomp ' and welcoming the wretched huddled masses.

History testifies that theological discrimination against women by institutional religion is advanced politically in patriarchal societies, and, with destructive and dysfunctional effects on the individual person and on society.

Fraudulently evolved prerogation of male primacy underlies cultural traditions of discrmination against women. Misinformed patriarchal theologies have poisoned women and men in their relationships and have brought about familial and societal dysfunction.
